Not bad for a state with only 109,000 people; the total revenue collected by the government was $670,000. The next year, the tax was increased to two percent as lawmakers saw the error of their ways.

Especially during the winter months at picturesque but remote Lake Tahoe, the expansion of Nevada’s casino industry was somewhat sluggish before WWII.
